HIKING EXCURSION KOZJAK ABOVE SPLIT
Departure every Sunday from April 15 through Sept. 15, 2018
Solin – Split piton trail – Sv. Jure 676 m – Klis 5h walk
Before registering and paying for the trip please fill out the Health Questionnaire
The city Kaštela on the north side surrounds the mountain Kozjak which extends from the Klis range to the east, which divides Kozjak from Mosor, to the west all the way to the Malačka mountain pass. The most remarkable part of Kozjak is the southern cliff (16 km), which is also the longest in Croatia, although relatively small height (50 – 250 m).
The highest peak of the littoral Kozjak is Veli vrj (779 m) on the eastern ridge above Kaštel Gomilica. The famous mountain hut Malačka is on the western ridge along with a saddle carrying the same name, height 466 m.
Veiw from Kozjak
The eastern peak Sv. Juraj is our destination which is accessible via a piton train through the cliffs all the way to the top. Most of the ascent is interesting because there are various ways of conquering Kozjak’s rocky barriers, and along with that there are views of the sea and of Kaštela which are visible at every step. Two of the challenges are ensured by pitons and rope and therefore are true attractions in that they look like miniature Alpine ascents, however the trails are easy and short.
